turning basement into apartment

Moved in with my mom when my dad died.going to turn basement into apartment.getting everything new.just dont know how to begin,have kitchen and bathroom cabinets picked out.need help with countertops,ceilings,colors.not good at combining things to look together.its so overwhelming to me.i could use all the help i could get.i want people to walk in and say wow.thank you
