Are Men Becoming Too Pretty?

Are Men Becoming Too Pretty?
Aired on: October 3, 2006

Is your man using more products for his face, hair and body than you? Does he spend hours in the bathroom primping? After outing her husband John as a "pretty" man, Rachael and Steve Santagati answer your questions about the basics every guy should maintain. (Watch the video above for more of Steve's tips.)

"I'm dating a guy who plucks his eyebrows. I personally don't think a guy should pluck unless he has a unibrow, which he doesn't. What do you think?"

Rachael: "John grooms his eyebrows. I don't think that's so bad. I think it's OK for a guy to do a little grooming so I would get over it. Just don't look when he's doing it."

Steve: "If a guy is focusing too much on how he looks or his clothes or plucking his eyebrows or his moisturizers, he's not focusing on other things like how to protect you, how to change a tire without a cell phone and most importantly, how to be a guy. I shave the center of my eyebrows, zip, it's done. He shouldn't be plucking his eyebrows. That's very effeminate. That, ladies, as you know, is not sexy. So he can do a little grooming, but don't overdo it!"

"My sister's boyfriend spends so much time getting ready, he always makes us late. What do I do?"

Rachael: "Go without him."

Steve: "Give him a time limit. The guy has too much time on his hands. If a guy's too obsessed with how he looks, applaud him when he's in his most simple outfit. Compliment him when he looks his most low-maintenance."

"I work with a guy who goes every other week for a manicure/pedicure. What do you think of that?"

Steve: "That's too much. Guys still have to be rugged. Fingernails should be clean but they should have calluses on their hands. You shouldn't feel like you're shaking a woman's hand. If he has a job where he has to wear a suit or something a bit more formal, once in a while it's OK. And it's nice to flirt with the ladies at the nail salon. Most important is the mentality with which your guy is going about this. Is he obsessed with his clothes and matching and nail polish and eyebrows and all this stuff? If he is, that's a problem. The bottom line: no hairy ears, no hairy nose, that's nasty! I also think think a guy should trim, and we'll just leave it at that!"
