Double-Duty Household Tips
Rachael's DIY buddy Kristan Cunningham shows you how ordinary household items can serve double-duty:
• Wax dripped on to your tablecloth, napkins, carpet, or any kind of cloth at all? No problem. Put a brown paper bag (like a lunch bag) over the wax and run a very hot iron over it (make sure the iron isn't on the steam setting -- you don't need more moisture). Keep shifting the bag around when it gets "wet" as it draws up the wax. It will take a while but eventually all of the wax will be soaked up into the bag, and off your carpet or table cloth, etc.
• Don't throw out those empty cardboard gift-wrapping tubes after the holidays! Store your good linens by rolling them up on a wrapping paper tube, and they'll stay freshly pressed for the next holiday. ("Fold marks are the devil," says Kristan.) Or, you can use the gift wrap tubes inside your boots so they stand upright in your closet instead of flopping over to the side and leaving a crease.
• How can you wrap cupcakes in plastic wrap without messing up the decorations or frosting on top? Stick rock candy on top of 'em to create a tent pole effect before wrapping them up ... and they look more festive that way too!
• Never use your food processor because just the thought of cleaning it out afterward is so dreadful? Use plastic wrap to keep the top of your food processor clean!
