Dangerous Encounters' Brady Barr
He has jumped into snake pits and been surrounded by packs of wolves, but neither of those outings for the National Geographic series Dangerous Encounters can compare to Brady Barr's strategy for getting closer to African crocodiles. He literally played the part of a croc by entering their environment in a high-tech crocodile suit intended to blend in with the reptiles. "It looked real, it smelled real. We smeared it with hippo dung to give it a natural smell," Brady explains, adding that he basically fit in. "They just kind of looked at me and moved around me."
While Brady managed to fool the crocodiles, he still took every precaution by wearing a suit built for an attack. "It's made out of Kevlar, the same material that bullet proof vests are made out of," he says. "Crocs have the strongest bite of any animal on the planet - over 3,000 pounds - so it had to be strong!" Given the risks, Rachael asks if he ever gets scared during a shoot? "I'm scared every day!" Brady admits, saying the fear is actually his survival secret. "It keeps me safe. I know what they're capable of doing. The day I stop being scared is the day I need to find another job." Still, he's in no hurry to chose a safer line of work. "I got the best job in the world. For National Geographic I get to travel the globe, interact with some of the most amazing animals!"
