Emily and the Kids of MD Anderson's Camp A.O.K.

Emily and the Kids of MD Anderson's Camp A.O.K.
Aired on: September 27, 2010

At 18 years old, Emily is like any active teen girl; she enjoys swimming, skiing, riding her bike, she's on the cheerleading team, and she's even taught herself to play guitar. But unlike most girls her age, Emily has already been through a lifetime of challenges. After falling from her bike when she was 11, doctors detected that Emily had cancer. Since the initial diagnosis, Emily has undergone chemotherapy at MD Anderson Children's Cancer Hospital, has had several relapses and even had to have her right leg amputated, but nothing is going to stop this determined teen. "The first thing I did after my amputation was ride my bike to school" she recalls. "I try to live as normal a life as possible." Her mom never ceases to be amazed by her daughter: "You think your life is normal and uneventful, then you have a kid that just never stops fighting."

Every year, Emily joins dozens of fellow patients at M.D. Anderson's Camp A.O.K., an overnight camp that offers these kids a break from hospitals and cancer treatments. Emily says that the best thing about the camp are the friends she's made. "And you don't have to explain your treatment," she smiles. The highlight of the summer is prom, which allows these teens to make up for missed milestones, like school dances. So to give these remarkable kids a night they'll never forget, Rachael sends her buddy Kyan Douglas and his makeup squad to outfit these teens from head to toe (and a few more surprises)! Check out the amazing prom here, and one final surprise from Rachael when she presents Emily with a message from Taylor Swift!
