Exploring the White House Kitchen Garden
The White House kitchen garden may only be around 1,100 square feet, but it's already produced about 3,000 pounds of food! First Lady Michelle Obama has documented all the hard work, care and energy that went into creating this culinary treasure trove in her book, American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America. "The first thing I said is that I want beautiful pictures that will pull people right in and then the story would come after that," she tells Rachael during their garden tour. "But it was also important to not just talk about the White House garden, because we're just one of thousands of community gardens all across this country."
Watch the video above to hear Mrs. Obama and Rachael exchange tips for getting all you can out of your garden vegetables, and to learn what surprises kids the most when they first visit the garden.
