Get Your Sexy Back
"I just don't feel sexy at all," says Carrie, a stay-at-home mother of two who recently had her second child. "I used to feel really sexy," she says. Not too long ago she was in better shape, made the effort to dress up and went out often. "But lately it's been more about the kids, being a mom, being a wife and taking care of the house," she says. "What I really want is to bring back that feeling I used to have about myself, that confidence, that sexiness. If I looked better, I'd really feel better about myself." Gretta to the rescue!
"This is normal!" assures Gretta. "Her life changed, her body changed, her priorities changed." The good news? "She never lost her sexy, she just misplaced it a little bit."
In the Closet
Tight clothing is not sexy. Fitted clothing, no matter what size you are, is flattering.
Know what you like about your body and play to those strengths with flattering clothes.
Get clothes you feel comfortable in, that hide those parts you're self-conscious about.
For new mothers like Carrie, an important step in getting your sexy back is getting out of the maternity clothes and back into your normal wardrobe.
"When women say they've stopped fixing themselves up in the morning, that's a sign that they're starting to lose that sexy feeling about themselves," says Gretta. "A simple five-minute, five-step makeup routine will make you feel like hot stuff!"
Gretta's Five-Minute Makeup Routine:
Complexion - Even everything out with a little foundation.
Concealer - Dab a little concealer on dark circles and blemishes.
Eyes - A little eyeliner, mascara and neutral shadow go a long way to make your eyes pop.
Blush - A rosy glow makes a huge difference.
Lips - A little gloss or color makes anyone feel sexy.
Shoes are instant sexy. To get Carrie back into heels, Gretta has her take a stiletto class at her gym, Crunch. "A stiletto strength class will do wonders for your quads, but it's learning how to walk in five-inch heels that brings on the attitude," she says. "It's not just about putting on the shoes; it's about how you feel in them."
Spa treatments are also a great way to get in touch with your sensuous side. Everyone needs a little pampering every now and then!
Relationship expert Dennie Hughes weighs in:
"We all have those moments in our life where there's a milestone; you're turning 50, you just had a baby, and you just kind of lose it. You're tired. For women, sexy starts in the brain and if you're tired, you don't do anything." But here are some of her tips on how to get it back.
Get some sexy underwear, something that fits well. Get a bra fitting as well: "You'd be surprised what your body looks like when you're wearing a good bra."
Get into exercise classes but do an activity that makes you feel like a woman: Belly dancing, stiletto classes or pole-dancing are all great options.
Take a semi-naked photo of yourself. "It's very empowering," says Dennie. "Get a professional to do it or do it at home with self-timer on a camera. See what other people see when they look at you. You'd be surprised at how sexy you are."
Have a 'toast it not roast it' party. You supply the food and the liquor, and all your friends have to bring are five reasons why they feel blessed to have you in their lives. When you hear how you affect other people, you feel amazing and confident -- and that's where beauty starts.
For couples: Make time for date nights and do something special for each other. If you can't get a babysitter, lock your bedroom door and have a candle-lit picnic in there.
"You have to do a little bit of work to be sexy but the payoff is huge."
With Gretta and Dennie's help, Carrie gets her sexy back. "I just feel so much stronger, I feel beautiful! I haven't felt that way in so long."
And Carrie plans on hanging on to her sexy vibe. She's now got regular date nights with her husband, is hooking up with old girlfriends she lost touch with for girls' nights and will continue with the stiletto class.
