Want to try a spray tan at home, but not sure how to get your desired skin tone? Gretta shows you with the help of a brave viewer!

• Choosing the product: "A lot of companies have improved their formulas. St. Tropez was one of the first ones, they only do tanning, I've used them in my spas for 10 years," Gretta says. "Always stick with your skin type, for instance if you have light to medium skin do not pull the dark formula."

• Prep your skin the night before. "So important, you've got to exfoliate the skin because this is another reason you can turn orange and patchy," Gretta explains. "Go in the tub, [use] a little bit of sea salt, literally scrub down with your face cloth. You don't need a professional. Do that and shave — shave the night before not the day-of because if your skin is inflamed it can sting."

• Gretta's tip for avoiding stains: Put Vaseline on your nail beds and the palms of your hands, also stand on wax paper to protect your floor. You can put Vaseline on the bottoms of your feet so they stick to the wax paper and it is easier to stand.

• Spray from 6 inches away from your skin. "Start systematically one side to the other so you don't forget where you were," Gretta says. If you use a formula with instant tint you will immediately know if you've missed a spot, also if you use a spray as opposed to a cream product it will be easier to reach your back.
