Inauguration Celebration with Diane Sawyer

Inauguration Celebration with Diane Sawyer
Aired on: January 19, 2009

"Thank you so much for stopping by, I know your dance card is more than full," Rachael says, as she welcomes Good Morning America host Diane Sawyer back to the show on the eve of President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration. "I'm getting ready, really, for a 48-hour marathon. I cannot wait!" Diane says. She'll be there for the procession, the swearing-in ceremony and the presidential lunch. "You've probably heard that he's going to be doing Lincoln's menu," she says. "They're going to have shellfish, and he used to hunt venison and wild game, and apparently Mary Lincoln loved apple cake ... and they're going to have a variation of that apple cake." Diane jokes that her own meals will be a bit simpler as she tries to stay alert late into the evening. "Sitting behind us, it's just the worst array of junk food you've ever seen. For one day we are fueled entirely by cholesterol."

With 10 official inaugural balls to keep track of, Rachael asks Diane what she'll be wearing for the occasion. "I am going to be in my news clothes," she says. "I will not be there doing my embarrassing dancing in front of the president-elect." Instead, she's looking forward to what she expects will be a "highlight" of her 30 years of inaugural coverage. "It's rich with history, it's a family that we are really interested to watch," Diane says. "This will be different."
