Dumpster Diving for Décor with John Gidding
These days, many people are looking for budget ideas to decorate their home or apartment, but did you know you could also find great décor for free? Watch the video above to see John Gidding scour the streets of New York City to prove that one man's trash is another's treasure, and check out how he uses all of the found items to spruce up a room!
John's Tips:
• "If you do your research online, you can find the best neighborhoods in which to find free stuff. Every city has a blog for that."
• "Pick a neighborhood that has similarly sized-dwellings to the one you're looking to decorate — the discarded items may fit better."
• "It's illegal to throw away paint, so many cities have a depository or a recycling program. In New York City, it's called WasteMatch.org. It's almost like an online dating site but for people who need paint." [Note: Wastematch.org is normally meant for larger projects, while the NYC Stuff Exchange is meant for most residents and smaller scale items.]
