Mally's "Eyelash 101"
Rachael's beauty buddy Mally Roncal shows you the basic for making your eyelashes long and luxurious!
Curling Technique
When it comes to a good eyelash curl, Mally explains, "This is my number one secret to looking 10 years younger and like you've had eight hours of sleep, which obviously none of us have!" Though some women may use heated eyelash curlers, Mally admits she's never found one that she likes. "I'm a little bit old school," she laughs. "I love a great eyelash curler and a hair dyer." After heating up the curler with your hair dryer, Mally suggests testing it on your wrist to make sure it's not too hot, and then do something she calls the "3-pump squeeze." You start with the curler at the base of the lash and give the curler a squeeze, then come out to the middle of your lash and squeeze, then do a third squeeze at the ends of your lashes. "Nice round curls," Mally says, "That's the way to do it every time!"
Mascara
Mally shares her secret for making your eyes look more wide awake with mascara. "Often times you just slap it on," she says, "but when you apply it, wiggle the brush all the way from the base of the lash to the tip, that way you're coating every single lash. But also, redirect the lash, because that's going to open up the eye and make it look bigger." For your lower lash, go with a plum, a blue or a brown mascara to add a little bit of color, and hold the brush vertically so you can paint every single lash.
Nighttime look For a night on the town, Mally explains how to get that amazing "Italian movie star" look. "Wiggle the brush as you apply the mascara, but wiggle the lash toward the outside of your eye, toward the ear," she says. "Let's go for that feline look, that really sexy cat eye!" While you can use a plum, blue or brown mascara on your lower lash during the day, at night stick with black. "And," Mally adds, "take a liner and line underneath the inner rim of your eye and it will make your eye look bigger."
