Nurse-Approved Home Remedies
Survivor contestant and Registered Nurse Cirie Fields knew she would have to outplay the other contestants by getting creative in order to outlast them. Cirie also puts the same survival skills to use when it comes to in her job, and when developing home remedies. Now she's talking to Rachael about four nurse-approved remedies that you've probably already have in the house.
For Nail Fungus or Athlete's Foot
Fill a bowl with mouthwash. Soak your feet in the mouthwash for 10 minutes, two or three times a week for two to three weeks. Since mouthwash contains antiseptic, it helps to kill the germs that cause fungus. Not only will you be rid of the fungus, but your nails will be white again, and your feet will smell great!
For a Sore Throat
Put chamomile flowers (or chamomile tea bags) in a bowl with hot water. Soak a towel in the tea water and ring it out really well. Then, place the towel around the front of your neck -- make sure it isn't too hot! -- and directly on your throat to soothe the pain.
For a Headache
Take a pencil and hold it horizontally. Bite down on it (not too hard though, you don't want to break the pencil!) and hold it between your teeth. This will help to relieve head pain and stress by forcing your facial and jaw muscles to relax.
For a Bee Sting
Break open a cigarette (not like you should be smoking them! But you can bum one off of someone) and remove the tobacco. Moisten the tobacco with a little water and form it into a mound. Place the mound on top of the bee sting for about 15 minutes, or until the stinging sensation subsides. Tip: If the tobacco mound doesn't stay in place, secure it with a Band-Aid.
