Rachael jokingly warns parents to have their little ones leave the room as veterinarian Dr. Ernie Ward weighs in on a dog that's extremely ... friendly.
"Enoki is a little big of a slut!"
So proclaims Lauren, whose one-year-old dog Enoki has crazy insane bursts of energy and a strange habit of humping other dogs. "It's almost like she has doggie attention deficit disorder," she says. "She really is out of control." And while her dog's amorous behavior is embarrassing at times, Lauren worries that Enoki will one day try to mount another dog that's more aggressive, with not-so-funny consequences. "Doctor, help me please!" she begs.
Dr. Ernie quickly comes to a root of the problem -- Enoki is not spaid. "Because I was thinking of breeding her," Lauren explains, "until I saw some of the behaviors and I'm not sure I want to pass that along." In addition to imploring Lauren to have the dog spaid, Dr. Ernie says that she's got to start leadership exercises. "Having her sit, having her come, having her earn everything -- a dog like this needs a lot of exercise as well," he tells her. "I saw just bursts of energy and that tells me that she's probably not getting the type of aerobic activity she needs. So you need to say every activity has a purpose, and I want you to do a lot of aggressive aerobic activity with her -- really tire her out."
Lauren says she tried to get Enoki under control by taking her to obedience school, but that she flunked out. "Basically, the teacher said she should take it again with another teacher," Lauren explains. Dr. Ernie says that this was good advice, because not every teacher and every technique is going to work with every pet. "Now, you've got to follow up," he tells her. "This requires dedication on your part. If you're committed to making this work, this will happen."
