Red Carpet Secrets of the Stars

Red Carpet Secrets of the Stars
Aired on: January 13, 2010

Celebrities are busy getting ready for the Oscars® and the Golden Globes this time of year, and their red carpet beauty secrets may be the right solution for you! "The great thing about these secrets is that these are things you can do a month, a week or even a day before the event," Dr. Youn says, "whether it's a wedding or walking down the red carpet!"

Cellulite
Dr. Youn explains that one of his favorite treatments for cellulite is the Dermosonic machine. "It's FDA approved to temporarily reduce the appearance of cellulite," he claims. "The first step uses ultrasound to soften the fat and get it ready for the second step, a deep tissue massage that will help stretch out those fiber spands that create the dimpling associated with cellulite." Dr. Youn states that treatments run around $120 and he typically recommends one to two treatments a week for a month or two, followed by maintenance once a month or so to keep it up.

"Bacne"
Celebs who wear low-cut dresses with their whole backside exposed rarely show a blemish, and Dr. Youn suggests that chemical peels may be their secret. He claims that "the AFA clay peel is one of the best chemical peels to treat the face, to smooth the skin, to remove blemishes and fine lines, and we've actually found that it works well for the back, too." Dr. Youn says that the treatments, which cost between $100-$125, use amino acids to act as exfoliators which help smooth the skin, and also has antioxidants which help with the aging benefit. "If you do a set of intensive treatments once every few weeks for a month or two," Dr. Youn claims, "you can get results that do seem to last if you do the maintenance with it."

Facial wrinkles and lines
"How do celebrities get an airbrushed look to their face when it's not on a magazine cover?" asks Dr. Youn. "One of the answers is doing laser treatments." He demonstrates the Cynosure Elite MPX. "A non-invasive, no down-time, no pain, no nothing laser that we can use to literally tighten up all the skin in the face." Dr. Youn claims that the procedure also helps to improve sun damage and close up pores with nice results. At $150-$200 a treatment, Dr. Youn recommends a treatment every three to four weeks until the patient is happy with what they see.

Excessive sweating
If you're worried about sweat stains once you're all glammed up, Dr. Youn says that you can ditch antiperspirant and use Botox instead. "Botox is FDA-approved to treat excessive sweating of the armpits," he states. "It usually lasts for a good six months, sometimes more." Dr. Youn claims that the injections, which can run about $1000, work by interrupting the nerve impulses to the sweat glands of your armpits.
