Patrice has had short hair her entire life. Her husband has asked her to grow it out on more than one occasion. "It would just boost her confidence as far as her looks, her appearance ... her whole attitude," he says. But every time she tries, she loses patience and cuts it all off again! That hasn't stopped her from wishing. "Long hair means attitude, it means sexy. It's almost like a different persona. It's that flip-the-head-back, kind of sexy attitude. I want long hair!" Gretta reveals a way to get the long locks of her dreams, in mere hours.

Gretta took her to Indra Salon in New York for a hair weave. "I have wanted this all my life and I finally have it!" she says. "It feels wonderful!"

Gretta's Tips for Hair Extensions

  • Weaves like the one Patrice had done can cost upwards of $500 and usually last a couple of months. To keep a weave in the best condition, Gretta recommends braiding it loosely before washing it and using an all-in-one shampoo and conditioner as your shampoo, as well as a conditioner. This helps keep the hair detangled. When showering, let the shampoo water just run through the hair, do not rub or pull on it. And no towel drying! All of these things can loosen the weave and you'll have to go back to the salon to get it tightened. Long hair extensions should also be tied in one or two braids before going to sleep.

  • A great affordable way to add length and fullness to your hair is by using clip-in extensions, like the ones in Jessica Simpson's line Hair Do. Gretta calls them her "instant trick" and they cost under $100.

  • If your natural hair length is shorter than 3-5 inches from your scalp, you need to get a hair weave. If your natural hair is longer than 3-5 inches, you can get hair extensions. The difference is that hair extensions connect strands of hair to your already existing hair. A hair weave, like Patrice received, is when you braid the natural hair and then sew the weave on top of the braids.
