"Stump the Rach" with Damon Wayans
It's hard to believe it's been 20 years since In Living Color debuted, launching the careers of Jim Carrey, David Alan Grier, Jennifer Lopez, and of course, Damon Wayans and his seemingly endless number of brothers and sisters. The fourth of 10 children, Damon tells Rachael one of the advantages of being from a large family of comedians. "If you've noticed, my family has stayed out of scandals," he says, "and that's because of fear - fear of what the family would do to you if you messed up! If you messed up, you've got Keenen, Shawn, Marlon and Kim just doggin' you - it is not worth it!"
Damon's latest work is the novel Red Hats, a dramatic story about death and a social club of women over 50. "I got bored as a comedian so I wanted to do something to excite me," Damon explains, "to keep me in show business because I was thinking about retiring. I had a little hiccup when I wrote Blankman because it made about two dollars at the box office. I got really insecure and I stopped writing for a long time."
This year, the comic himself turns 50, and he already knows what presents he's getting - for himself! "I really don't celebrate birthdays, but because it's a big one, I'm going to buy myself a bunch of toys," Damon laughs. "And I'm going to play with toys just to see if I can have fun!"
