It’s no shock that the sandwich is one of America’s most beloved foods. What could possibly compare to the experience of devouring two pieces of pillowy bread surrounding a delicious filling? And we’re taking our sandwich game to the next level with 7 sandwiches that truly push the flavor envelope. You won’t find a basic sandwich on this list – and your life will be forever changed!
No. 1: Major Grey Chutney Chicken Salad
This spicy, sweet chicken salad is guilt-free because it’s made with Greek yogurt rather than mayo. With ginger, garlic and a mango chutney mixed in, it’s bursting with flavor.
Tip: Eat this on a sandwich, or by itself if you want to save calories.
No. 2: Andrew Zimmern’s Crispy Belly Bacon Sandwich with Jalapeño Jelly and Vinegar Slaw
So this next one isn’t quite as healthy. But it’s delicious with several complex layers of flavor. Andrew Zimmern shows you how to take a slab of smokehouse bacon and cut thick, juicy slices to fry as the base of your sandwich. He then adds a homemade vinegar slaw and jalapeno jelly and stacks in all on a chewy hot dog bun… We want this right now!
Tip: When using a mandoline, always be careful to not slice your vegetable right to the end, therefore risking your fingers. Just discard or use that last piece for something else.
This sandwich is like a steak house sandwiched between two pieces of bread. Juicy sirloin is sliced thin and piled high, then topped with a tangy horseradish gremolata and a slather of ricotta.
No. 4: Old Bay Beer Battered Cod Sandwiches with Malt Vinegar Slaw
Rachael’s cod sandwiches feature a beer batter, and to add even more flavor, Rachael adds crispy salt and vinegar potato chips to the sandwiches, yum!
No. 5: Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s Barbecue Chicken Sandwiches with Red Cabbage Mango Slaw
These barbeque chicken sandwiches are the perfect summer meal when you’re craving BBQ flavor but don’t want to stand over a hot grill.
No. 6: Spicy Chicken and Cheddar Waffle Sandwiches
Yup, you heard that right. Fried chicken ON a waffle. A cheddar waffle. With bacon. And a maple syrup sauce. It’s okay, go ahead and make it right now, we’ll be here when you’re done.
No. 7: Curtis Stone’s Croque Madame
This recipe is pretty much grilled ham and cheese with an egg and more cheese on top. Sounds so simple, but trust us when we tell you, the combination of comforting, rich flavors is anything but ordinary.
So which of these superhero sandwiches do you think you’ll try first? Tell us in the comments.
