The new year is fast approaching, which means lots and lots of celebrations are upon us -- and your pets!

As the festivities ramp up, keep in mind that noise anxiety in animals is a real thing.

"Pets didn’t get the memo that it’s the holiday season," veterinarian Dr. Courtney Campbell reminds us. "So to them, it’s kind of really stressful."

Popular noisy party poppers and fireworks can terrify your furry friends and potentially cause damage to sensitive ears.

So, Dr. Courtney suggests securing pets either in a safe, escape-proof area as midnight approaches or putting a ThunderShirt on them -- which claims to soothe their anxiety by applying "gentle, constant pressure, similar to swaddling an infant."

Another option, according to the vet? Lighting a lavender candle!
