Sure, “Cake Boss” Buddy Valastro owns 16 bakeries and already produces a hit television show, but why stop there?
His new show “Bakers vs. Fakers” features real bakers competing against fakers (or, at least, amateurs) vying for the top prize for their delicious sweet confections.
To celebrate, Buddy shows off a few simple cake tricks that will wow any dinner party guest. If, that is, you manage to save the cake for dessert instead of downing it yourself.
As he says, “you can be your own faker at home. Nobody’s gonna know what you do.”
Peanut Butter Cup Cake
Peanut butter lovers of the world unite in adoration of this tempting dessert. Boxed cake mix and simple peanut butter icing is ramped up with homemade chocolate ganache (which tastes great and sounds fancy but is a snap to make at home). Pile the peanut butter cups high for a stunning presentation.

Caramel Popcorn Cake
This recipe combines vanilla cake and icing with cookie butter and caramel popcorn for a cake that is almost as beautiful as it is delicious. Best of all, any leftover popcorn is yours for the snacking.
Chocolate Bacon Cake
This spin on a German chocolate cake uses boxed cake mix, frosting and caramel sauce. The cake is assembled in three gooey, rich layers. The final fun, gourmet touch is a sprinkling of crunchy bacon bits.
Chocolate-Covered Pretzel Cake
Sweet and salty has never tasted better than in this chocolate-lover’s cake. Chocolate cake is frosted with semi-homemade peanut butter-cream cheese icing and decorated with peanuts, chocolate shavings and chocolate covered pretzels. It’s almost worth going back to school and pulling an all-nighter just for the chance to have this as a midnight snack.
