Ingredients

  • 2 cups lemon juice
  • 3 tablespoons salt
  • 4 apples, peeled, halved lengthwise and cored
  • 24 cloves
  • 1 gallon punch of your choice

Yield

Serves: About 16

Preparation

Preheat the oven to 250°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Place the lemon juice in a medium bowl, add the salt and stir to combine. Using a paring knife, cut a spooky face into each apple half, being careful not to cut too deep. Submerge the apples, in batches as needed, in the lemon juice for about a minute. Shake off any excess juice, then set the apples on the prepared baking sheet, cut-side down. Bake for 1 ½ hours and let cool.

Poke a clove into each eye socket on the cooled apples, then in the nose divot. Pour the punch into a punch bowl and add the apples face-side up.
