A Mother's Day Surprise for Valerie Bertinelli

With Mother's Day right around the corner, Rachael asks if Valerie Bertinelli ever throws hints to her son Wolfie about what she would like. "Yeah, but he's a teenager now," she says, "so he doesn't hear anything that I say!" For those who might need a little help shopping for their mother, Valerie shares two of her favorite gift ideas. First, she loves the Amazon Kindle, a portable electronic-paper display that can store up to 200 titles. "Wow," exclaims Rachael. "It's like an iPod for books!" Valerie's next favorite item is something she tries to wear whenever she can -- a weighted WalkVest. "Sometimes I'll put this on in the morning when I start making breakfast," she explains. "and I just burn a few extra calories as I'm walking around the house." Rachael asks Valerie how she celebrates Mother's Day with her mom Nancy. "My mom lives in a different state," Valerie says. "I try to remember to send her flowers. I really do my best to remember that. I give her a phone call or she calls me. Usually it's my mom calling me because I'm really terrible at phone calls!" Thanks to Rachael, Valerie won't have to worry about remembering to pick up the phone this year -- watch the video above to see Nancy's surprise appearance! Nancy tells Rachael that Valerie was a "girly-girl" when she was little, but Valerie insists there was a bit of a tomboy in her too -- which got her into some trouble after church one Easter. "I went across the street because everyone was playing baseball after," Valerie relates, "and I wanted to go and be a part of it. But they were like, 'No, you're girl, you can't.' So I was sitting there watching, hoping to play, and some guy hits the ball, and it goes right to me -- bam! Bloody nose, two black eyes!" Her mom remembers it vividly. "We have a picture of Valerie with the family," Nancy says, "And the worst look on her face and the biggest black eye you'd ever seen!"
