They are winter's must-have item, but which boots are best for your body? Can you get away with a stiletto? Are over-the-knee boots right for you? Gretta's "boot camp" is in session with tips for making this season's trendiest looks work for you!
**Can I Wear ... Stiletto Boots?** "I'm worried if I put on those super duper high heels I will fall on my face!" says Amy, a stay-at-home mom, who usually chooses comfort over style because she is busy chasing around her three boys. But she is ready for a new look. "My 40th birthday is coming up and I would like to rock it and look sexy - like a hot mom!" Gretta is a huge fan of high heels -- "the higher the better," she says! "It's about discipline and practice," she suggests, while also recommending a platform for added comfort. Amy is surprised when she walks out in high heels with a hidden platform that might even be suitable for her kids' next play group. "They're more comfortable than I expected!"
**Can I Wear ... Flat Boots?** "Wearing boots with heels is all I know. I am 5 foot nothing!" says Stacy, who wants to give her feet a rest from the high heels. "How can I pull off wearing flat boots without looking even shorter?" Gretta says that proportion is key. "Go for a mid [calf] or two inches below the knee because you need to show more leg," Gretta explains, while recommending boots that hug the legs over a baggy look. And, she says women looking for more height, can lengthen their look by wearing monochromatic colors between their boots and skirts, with a brighter color on top. "That always keeps things long and lean."
**Can I wear ... Booties?** "My calves are like a basketball players! They're pretty big," says Nicole. "Usually when I wear boots I tend to stick to ones that are going to cover up my calves, because I'm a little self-conscious about that area. It's sad because I love short ankle booties." Gretta says the short boot is a great look for Nicole, as long as she picks a pair that stops near the ankle as opposed to calf-length. Pair them with opaque tights for a nice silhouette.
**Can I Wear ... Over-the-Knee Boots?** "I don't want to look like the kind of mom who just raided her teenager's closet," says Ronnie, 48, who recently lost 30 pounds and is eager to add tall, sexy boots to her collection. "I want to make a statement, but I want to make sure that I am making the *correct* statement. Can a woman over 40 wear over-the-knee boots?" Gretta says this look works at any age, but advises Ronnie to stick with a low heel. Ronnie tries it out and earns the approval of her 19-year-old daughter! "She thought I looked cool," she says proudly, "and my husband thinks I look hot!"
