Our series celebrating the best local restaurants—AKA "bestaurants"—across the country continues. For this one, we're headed to Chicago. Maria's in Chicago has been Chef Jeff Mauro's go-to spot for Mexican food since they opened 34 years ago, and now he's going into the kitchen to learn to make his favorite dishes on the menu from the owner, Maria, herself!
"I've been coming here since 1988, that's 34 years. What's so special about this place is that when you walk in, you're instantly comforted. It's so cozy, it's colorful, and the food reflects all that. It is homestyle, authentic, made-from-scratch Mexican food," says Jeff. Jeff joins Maria in the kitchen to make all his favorite menu items, from Carne Asada to Chile Rellenos and even Fundido Chihuahua—a bowl of cheesy fondue. Jeff even gives us an insane cheese pull—Yum!
