Not only is Denis Leary the star of one of Rachael's favorite shows, *Rescue Me*, but he's also one of its writers. "The show is based on smudged, fictionalized versions of guys I really knew," he tells Rachael, adding that much of the show's drama comes from real dangers that firefighters encounter every day. "I called Terry [Quinn, technical adviser for the show] and I said, 'Hey, I'm on the set, we're thinking of writing the next episode, we want to do a school bus crash.' He goes, 'I'm at one right now, I'll call you back.' It's *that* realistic."
They also get plenty of material from firefighters' conversations, with hilarious scenes around the firehouse that are based on real-life tales to convey the ribbing that goes on between the brotherhood of firefighters. "If you did something wrong," Denis says, "if you just shaved your legs, if you like to surf, if you just broke up with your girlfriend ... whatever the information about you personally is, you are going to have your chops busted in the firehouse. They have to have that black sense of humor to not think about what they deal with."
Denis isn't immune from getting *his* chops busted by his fellow *Rescue Me* co-stars, Adam Ferrara, Lenny Clarke and John Scurti, who surprise him from the studio balcony! They immediately start teasing Denis for hogging the stage and leaving them in the rafters. Rachael invites them to join them at the kitchen table, and she ends up in the middle of the good-natured fun when Lenny comments on her kitchen. "Wow," he tells her. "This is like a really wild, upscale *Pee-wee's Playhouse* with all the colorful stuff!" Watch the video above to see what the cast reveals when the audience asks questions, including the good luck charm Denis keeps in his character's fire helmet, Lenny's recipe for Lobster à la Lenny, and how Scurti does with the ladies!
