We have another addition to our series celebrating some of the best local restaurants—"bestaurants" as we call them—across the country. This one, called Leilu, is on Long Island and brought to us from our viewer Laurie. Laurie loves this spot not only for its great food, but for the ways its owners, James and Megan, celebrate and give back to the local community.
"We were both born and raised here. We love it here. We're raising our daughters here, as well. We try to source as locally as possible with food and desserts. One of our most popular dishes are the meatballs—all beef blend. We call them Devil Balls. They actually pay homage to our Huntington Blue Devils, which is our high school mascot," says owner James.
Plus, they also fed essential workers during the pandemic and supported the local musicians who couldn't play in the indoor theater during COVID by allowing them to perform in the restaurant's outdoor space. How special!
