Every year, we team up with Denis Leary and the Leary Firefighters Foundation to celebrate International Firefighters' Day (which is on May 4) on Randall’s Island in New York. This year, Rachael's friends Bob Harper and Chef Josh Capon joined Lanie Friedman from Conagra Brands to take on the challenge, which included putting out a live car fire, using a 75-foot tower ladder, being lowered down from the roof of a six-story building, search and rescue and simulating a rescue of someone trapped underneath a subway car.
"It's about people coming here and getting to be a firefighter for a day," Denis says.
"What I'm learning today is firefighters don't just put out fires; they do everything," Bob says. "They are getting down in the subway saving people. There is nothing that they can't do."
Our friend and celeb event planner Mary Giuliani was also on hand to feed everyone—gotta love her! She served Rach's Rigatoni with 3-Pepper Sauce, Italian-American Salad and more.
